'Gazette announces its 2017 Women of Distinction
The Niagara Gazette is pleased to announce its 2017 class of Women of Distinction.
This year’s class was chosen from the areas of business, education and community and public service with an eye on pushing the Niagara Region forward.
As has been the case in the past, dozens of worthy candidates were submitted by the community. A committee made up of Gazette staffers selected this year’s honorees.
The women will be recognized at a dinner ceremony on May 16 at Antonio’s Banquet & Conference Center, 7708 Niagara Falls Blvd. Tickets, priced at $25, go on sale Monday.
This year’s honorees:
Molly Anderson — Center for Leadership & Organizational Effectiveness
Connie Brown — United Way of Greater Niagara
Carol Calato — Calato Manufacturing/Regal Tip
Mary Lynn Candella — Niagara Falls Memorial
Medical Center
Bernadette Franjoine — Mount St. Mary’s Hospital
Paulette Glasgow — Lewiston Taxpayers Accountability & Action Alliance
Laura Sweney-Goodlander — Otto Redanz Funeral Home
Joanne Lorenzo — The Magdalene Project
Anne Marie Moraca-Sawicki — LaSalle Business & Professional Association
Joanne Scott — Word of Life Ministries
Linda Shenkle — Fichte Endl & Elmer Eye Care
Lisa Surace — Bravo Studio
Scholarships for area high school students will also be presented on May 16 including the $1,000 Regetta M. Bane Heart of Gold Scholarship from Patti Wrobel, a 2011 Women of Distinction, and her daughters, Jennifer Ventress and Kristen Casero. Further scholarship details will come as the event approaches.
A special insert saluting the 2017 Women of Distinction will also be published and inserted into May 13’s Niagara Gazette.
